Disney World Announces to Orange County Task Force No Reopening Date Has Been Set
When it comes to Walt Disney World reopening, we have been paying close attention to the Orange County, Florida and the State of Florida Economic Recovery Task Force. These groups have been established to advise how local economies can safely and effectively reopen.
On the Orange County Task Force is Thomas Mazloum, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney World Resorts and Transportation Operations. During this morning’s Task Force meeting, he made it known that no opening date has been established for Walt Disney World.
Mazloum stated, “We do not have an opening date yet.”
He also noted that just because Walt Disney World is taking reservations beginning on June 1, 2020, that does not necessarily mean they will be opening on June 1, 2020. He wanted to make it clear that they he had no plans to share what a Walt Disney World reopening will look like at this time.
While a reopening date has not yet been announced for Walt Disney World, I am optimistic that some sort of timeline will be announced soon. I am also hopeful that the Parks will be open sometime this Summer.
Today, the first step was taken in the Orlando/Orange County area as the state’s Phase 1 guidelines were officially implemented. Under Phase 1, select non-essential business are permitted to reopen under strict protocols including social distancing and enhanced personal hygiene measures. Under Phase 1, restaurants are allowed to offer outdoor seating and can fill up to 25% of their seating capacity inside. Retail locations are also permitted to reopen under these guidelines.
With the Phase 1 guidelines, it’s looking like Disney Springs at Walt Disney World might be one of the first locations on property to reopen. Disney has made it clear through push notifications on the My Disney Experience app that they are still not open as of today.
