Photo Released This Week Shows Sigourney Weaver Back On Set For ‘Avatar 2’
Well for all of those Avatar fans that have been wondering, we can now confirm- Sigourney Weaver is coming back to Avatar 2. However, it remains unclear exactly how the star will be returning to the world of Pandora given the fact that her character Dr. Grace Augustine passed away in the original film.
Weaver herself took to Twitter this week to share a photo of her on set for James Cameron’s sequel alongside her co-star Joel David Moore and producer Jon Landau. The photo is likely a throwback from earlier in the year because as we reported here at MickeyBlog, production on films has been suspended during the COVID-19 shutdown.
The caption of the photo (which you can see below) reads “From the set of the Avatar sequels: Producer Jon Landau, Sigourney Weaver, and Joel David Moore revisited the Site 26 Shack to shoot scenes for the new films.”

Late last year James Cameron released a look at the world of Pandora.
That's a wrap, Na'vi Nation! 💙
It's our last day of live-action filming in 2019, and we're celebrating with a sneak peek. 👀

The first sequel will be released in 2021 and is expected to be titled Avatar: The Way of Water. The project has been on the cards since the original Avatar was released a decade ago and has been recently bumped back due to production delays. We can confirm that both Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are returning as are Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington. We also know that Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Michelle Yeoh are also involved. Vin Diesel has also suggested his involvement in the project but no further details have been released. Though little has been revealed of the plot, many are speculating (as the title perhaps suggests) that the film will focus on the waters of Pandora.
According to a recent piece in The Independent, Cameron who has been working diligently on the Avatar project since 2009 said that he was relieved when Avengers: Endgame surpasses Avatar at the box office saying that is, “demonstrable proof that people will still go to movie theatres”.
Cameron has previously spoken out about the long wait for the sequel saying that the film was largely dependent on underwater motion-capture technology that hadn’t yet been developed.
Avatar 2 is scheduled for release in cinemas on 17 December 2021.
