Disney+ Is Decked Out For May the 4th!
Join the party, you will….
Fans from around the world will celebrate Star Wars on Monday, May the 4th.
And Disney+ got a jump on the celebration by decking out the streaming service’s homepage with original concept art by Ralph McQuarrie.
Variety’s Todd Spangler posted about the graphic update:
Disney Plus will soon be streaming all nine of the Star Wars movies in the Skywalker cycle — and to hype the collection, the company’s streaming division has launched a series of concept-art takeovers spanning the franchise’s four decades.
It’s the first design refresh for Disney Plus since it debuted in November 2019, taking advantage of the service’s dedicated brand pages to prompt viewers to get immersed in the galaxy far, far away.
On Friday, the Disney Plus homepage carousel was updated: It now features Star Wars concept art from legendary designer and illustrator Ralph McQuarrie from his 1975 painting of the droids in the desert (see above). Now, Disney Plus users will be able to navigate to a dedicated brand page directly from carousel art. The SVOD service’s Star Wars brand page will feature an adaption of character art from the Star Wars Celebration 2019 commemorative mural by Jason Palmer and others. Additional artists whose Star Wars work will be featured include Doug Chiang and Seth Engström.

An Out Of This World Line-up
The official release teased:
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” joins Disney+’s May the 4th line-up including the premiere of the eight-episode documentary series “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian,” and the series finale of the award-winning animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”
In addition to new content offerings, Disney+ will also honor the artistry of Star Wars with a week-long concept art takeover on the service. Like a commemorative gallery, each film and series’ artwork will be updated on May 4th to feature its original concept paintings. From “Star Wars: A New Hope” to “The Mandalorian,” the updated art will feature work from celebrated artists such as the legendary Ralph McQuarrie and Academy Award-winning artist, author, and production designer, Doug Chiang.
On the Disney+ home screen, the animated “Star Wars” brand tile, viewable on web and connected TV devices, gets upgraded with a new animation that honors the signature hyperspace jump.
