FAA Is Currently Looking Into Airport Runway Incident Involving Actor Harrison Ford
He may have made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs but Harrison Ford is currently under investigation by the FAA for a runway mishap that occurred at Hawthorne Airport in Los Angeles last week.
The actor famous for his roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones may have decided to “punch it” before he was supposed to. As a result, a plane he was piloting crossed a runway as another plane was landing.
A representative of Ford spoke to CNN where he said of the incident, “Mr Ford crossed the airport’s only runway in his aircraft after he misheard a radio instruction from ATC. He immediately acknowledged the mistake and apologized to ATC for the error.” The representative added,
“The purpose of the flight was to maintain currency and proficiency in the aircraft. No one was injured and there was never any danger of a collision.”
The FAA also spoke to CNN where they advised that the two aircrafts were about 3600 feet away from one another during the incident.
A spokesperson for the FAA told CNN, “The FAA is investigating an incident in which the pilot of an Aviat Husky taxied across the runway at Hawthorne Municipal Airport Friday afternoon while another aircraft was performing a touch-and-go landing.”
Though it sounds like a minor incident, what is drawing attention is the fact that Ford has had a few other incidents while flying over the years. Most famously, back in 2017, he was told to land his single-engine plane at John Wayne Airport in Orange County but accidentally landed it on a parallel taxiway passing over an American Airlines plane that was holding nearby. At the time, the AA flight had 110 passengers and 6 crew aboard.
Here’s the footage as it ran on Good Morning America:
In addition to the two incidents outlined above, Ford made headlines back in 2015 when a plane that he was flying was forced to land on a Golf Course. An investigation revealed that this was a result of an engine failure. Prior to that, in 1999, Ford had to make an emergency landing in a California riverbed when he ran into difficulties while piloting a helicopter.
As of going to print, it remains to be seen whether Ford will still take to the skies or whether he’s decided that its time to turn in those dice!
