Sony Has Pushed Back Spider-Man Opening Dates Forcing Disney To Reschedule Other Marvel Titles
According to a recent piece in The Verge, Sony is making adjustments to their film schedule as a result of closures due to COVID-19. This means the studio’s Spider-Man projects have been pushed back which has a knock-on effect when it comes to Disney/Marvel’s upcoming timelines.
According to the piece, the sequel to the award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the third film in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy (which is also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) will be delayed by months. The Into the Spider-Verse sequel will now be released on October 7th 2022 (it was originally scheduled for April of the same year) and the third Spider-Man film will now come out on November 5, 2021 as opposed to July 16, 2021. A third title, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will also be pushed back to June 25, 2021 instead of October.
Because the third film in the Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy is an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline it means that Disney has had to move other films. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder will be moved.
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Doctor Strange was recently just moved a few weeks ago to November 5, 2021 but now this has been pushed back to March 25, 2022. Similarly, Thor: Love and Thunder is shifting from February 18,2022 will actually be opening a week earlier to February 11, 2022. Presumably to give to more time before Doctor Strange opens.
These are developments we’ll be watching closely here at MickeyBlog, readers are encouraged to keep following along for the latest Marvel news and updates!
