Jerry Bishop Who Was The Voice Of The Disney Channel For 15 Years Has Passed Away
Today, we morn the passing of a legendary radio veteran. Jerry Bishop, who served as the announcer for Disney Channel for over 15 years as well as Judge Judy since it’s first season has passed away at the age of 84.
According to an obituary in DEADLINE, Bishop worked doing voice-over work right up until his final days as the announcer for Judge Judy. In an official statement, Judy Sheindlin said. “Jerry Bishop has been the voice of our program for 24 years.” She added, “Everbody loved him. He had a golden heart and a generous spirit. I adored him and will miss him.”
In addition to the two noteworthy productions above, Bishop had a long career in radio and voiceover work. He got his start at WDRC in Hartford, CT before moving on to WRKO in Boston, then on to San Diego and Los Angeles. In 1965 his started a long career in L.A. radio starting at KLAC and including stints at KFI, KKDJ, KIIS, and KGIL.
It was after his radio days that Bishop branched out to voice-over work. He did commercials for major brands including Burker King as well as promos for major networks like NBC and ABC. He was also the off-camera announcer for The $10,000 Pyramid in the 1980s.
Bishop leaves behind daughters Karen Rosenbloom, Michelle Carriker and Stephanie Blume, brother Daniel Blume, sister-in-law Joanne Blume, three grandchildren and a niece, nephew and great-nephew.
