Florida Task Force Working on Timetable To Re-Open The Theme Parks
With the country looking toward a phased re-opening, the state of Florida is beginning to explore options and processes to reopen aspects of its ailing tourism industry. It has been nearly 6 weeks since many theme parks in the state began taking measures to close there theme parks including Walt Disney World Resort.
As Governor DeSantis moves to start re-opening the state, a special committee has been set up as part of the “Re-Open Florida Task Force” with the purpose of developing a timetable to get local tourist attractions back up and running.
A huge component of this as MyNews13 points out is coming up with safety guidelines to make sure that there is not a resurgence of the virus. Though its early days for the Task Force, The group is considering the following factors:
- Timetable for coming back
- Reopening will have to be gradual
- State residents, then national and international visitors
The group is supposed to meet later today to discuss steps that need to be taken to gradually open the parks in a careful way that will ensure guest safety. This is in accordance with Florida tourism officials who have previously said that re-openings need to be gradual.
The task force is already discussing a phased re-opening meaning that attractions would first open to local and state residents before re-opening to the country at large.
Included in the committee are members from 22 businesses across a myriad of different sectors. Among the members are Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Florida House of Representatives Speaker Jose Oliva and Florida Senate President Bill Galvano. Representing the theme parks are Josh D’Amaro, President of Walt Disney World Resort and John Sprouts, CEO of Universal Orlando Resort.
Governor DeSantis said he is hoping to have received recommendations from the Task Force by the end of the week on when and how tourism in the state should re-open.
