Development of the Play! Pavilion at EPCOT Continues Amid COVID-19 Construction Stoppage
We have some more good news to pass along today. Amid the COVID-19 construction stoppage at Walt Disney World, it appears that the behind-the-scenes planning is still going forward on the new Play! Pavilion coming to EPCOT!
As you are probably aware, much of EPCOT, especially in Future World, was one large construction site before the Parks closed due to the COVID-19 Outbreak. Once the Parks closed, most construction sites on property came to a virtual standstill. Many were concerned that with the Parks losing money due to their closure, that some of the upcoming projects would be scrapped, including the new Play! Pavilion.
However, we just came across some permits that were recently filed for the Play! Pavilion. As you can see in the image below, the permit appears to be for “Added information and detail for set areas.”

Announced at the 2019 D23 Expo, the Play! Pavilion was originally scheduled to open in 2021 in celebration of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. Hopefully this will still be possible even with the construction stoppage.
Once open, the Play! Pavilion is expected to offer, interactive games as well as character meet and greets.
