Walt Disney World Will Play Key Role in Reopening of Orlando and Orange County
As COVID-19 cases begin to decline in some parts of the country, local governments along with the federal government are putting plans into place to slowing reopen the economy. Last week the federal government issued guidelines on how state and regional economies can begin to reopen in phases with what is being called “Opening Up America Again.” When it comes to open business in Orlando and Orange County, Florida started again, it appears that Walt Disney World will play a big role in making that happen.
ClickOrlando.com is reporting that the Orange County Mayor, Jerry Demings, has appointed an economic exploration team made up of about 40 to 45 local business leaders that will spearhead the reopening of the economies. He said that Walt Disney World will most likely be a “heavy hitter” in reopening discussions.
Demings said, “In terms of where they are with their experience with the pandemic, they are probably ahead of us.”
Walt Disney World is Orange County’s largest employer. And, since all of Disney’s Parks around the world, especially where the COVID-19 outbreak originally began in Asia, are closed, they might be able to provide a unique perspective in the reopening process.
Demings went on to say, They’ve experienced some things — in terms of the planning process — that I believe could be beneficial and constructive to us as we begin to respond to the very uniqueness of our (Orange) county.”
As of right now, an official reopening date or when the reopening process will begin has not yet been announced for Walt Disney World or Orange County. Many local governments across the country, where cases are low, may being the process as early as a Friday, May 1. A few cities in Florida reopened their beaches over the past weekend. Nothing is official, but Walt Disney World currently shows park hours beginning on Sunday. May 10.
