Walt Disney World Resort Earns AZA Accreditation
We’ve been sharing updates with you on how our favorite furry, scaly, and fine feathered friends are doing at Disney even though the parks are temporarily closed. They are continuing to receive the best care from Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members. These efforts have not gone unnoticed. Because of this team’s dedication and hard work, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge have once again earned accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members includes experts in animal care, nutrition, veterinary care, conservation, science, and education programs. They continue to develop new forms of enrichment for the animals.
This includes different food textures and scents for the lions, training animals to participate in their own medical care, feeding fresh lettuce to hippos, and placing leafy branches up high for the giraffes. These are just a few of the reasons why Disney has received the their AZA accreditation, the gold standard in animal care.
Disney received the AZA Accreditation because they are a recognized leader in animal care and conservation. Their animal care team goes above and beyond to establish strong relationships with the animals and help maintain their health and well-being.
The Animals, Science and Environment Team is also passionate about conservation. In partnership with the Disney Conservation Fund, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this month, they’re working to help save wildlife, inspire action and protect the planet. Those efforts support nonprofit organizations and the health of hundreds of species, like the Grauer’s gorilla.
