New Models Suggest Florida Has Reached Its Peak with COVID19
New models from healthdata.org are showing that Florida has reached its peak with COVID19 related illnesses and deaths as of April 17th, 2020. The chart below shows that Florida saw a peak in deaths 16 days ago and they have not seen a spike since. The model suggests that after June 1st, Florida can start relaxing their social distancing guidelines and start using containment strategies that include testing, contact tracing, isolation, and limiting gathering size.
Another encouraging model shows that hospitals have started seeing a downward trend in utilizing their resources related to COVID19 illnesses and deaths since the peak last week.
But first, states who are looking to reopen will have to meet the following criteria in the “Opening of American Again” guidelines:
Once those criteria are met, each state/region can begin opening in one of the following phases. Each phase has criteria for individuals, employers, and special types of employers.
Phase One of the “Opening Up America Again” guidelines would pertain to states/regions where the COVID-19 outbreak is still widespread and not yet under control. This Phase is the most restrictive and close to what most Americans are already experiencing such as continuing to shelter in place and limit gatherings to 10 people or less. Specifically to Walt Disney World and Disneyland, Phase One states that “large venues can operate under strict physical distancing protocols.” This Phase also states to minimize non-essential travel and adhere to CDC guidelines regarding isolation following travel.
In Phase Two of the “Opening Up America Again,” all vulnerable individuals should continue to shelter in place. However, non-essential travel can resume. Large venues can “operate under moderate physical distancing protocols.”
Finally, in Phase Three of the “Opening Up America Again,” vulnerable individuals can resume public interactions but should practice physical distancing. It also notes that low-risk populations should consider minimizing time spent in crowded environments. Pertaining to Walt Disney World and Disneyland, large venues can operate under limited physical distancing protocols.
As of right now, the Walt Disney World resort is taking reservations for summer travel starting on June 1st. These are definitely encouraging to see and hope these trends continue as long as we can continue to practice safe guidelines and strategies.
