The Beat Goes On as Disney Musician Offers Free Weekly Concerts

Disney Musicians will begin their full furlough on April 19th. With the parks, resorts and restaurants all closed, Disney musicians have no one to entertain. At least not in person.

The Orlando Sentinel featured one musician who refuses to stop playing for her audience. Carol Stein, who has played piano at Disney World for 30 years, has opened up her living room for a weekly Facebook live concert.
It’s free and features the music she has played at The Rose and Crown Pub in EPCOT since 2008. Like many of the Disney musicians, she also plays songs for children at the Grand Floridian Resort.
Stein plays every week and takes requests. She not only plays Disney songs like “Tale as Old as Time” from Beauty and the Beast, but she can also play fan favorites like the theme song to the sitcom Cheers. She has more than 5,000 viewers each week.

And don’t forget this musician who is used to playing in public is doing all this for free from her living room. She dresses the part, puts on her make-up and plays for hours. “If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it with a little bit of class,” Stein acknowledges (Orlando Sentinel).
Stein’s husband is still employed and runs his own ice company (ala Kristoph from Frozen). She is grateful Disney will continue to pay employee health benefits for musicians during the furlough, but desperately misses her live audience.
“This is a very serious time, and we know that,” Stein says in an interview. “But that’s what we as artists do — we perform. We love what we do. We want to make people happy.” (Orlando Sentinel)

Stein’s fans include regular’s from the pub and new fans from all across the world. They comment as Stein plays with uplifting quotes like “This does my heart good!” and “Bring it home”.
