Much-Loved ‘Toy Story’ Songwriter Randy Newman Pens New Song About Social Distancing
Randy Newman the songwriter behind some of the incredible songs in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise is finally bringing his talents to the fight against COVID-19.
According to a recent post on Good Morning America, he has just posted a video to his YouTube channel providing us with some musical relief but also an important reminder! Check it out:
The “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” penned a brand new song titled “Stay Away.” This new musical number for these uncertain times was penned at the request of Southern California Public Radio Station 89.3 KPCC.
In the video above, Newman can be seen giving some important advice, “Stay six feet away from other people. Wash your hands religiously and often. Don’t touch your face,” before launching into the song.
Newman has always been known for his witty turn of phrase and this new COVID-19-inspired song is no exception. Some of the lyrics include, “Stay away from me. Baby, keep your distance, please. Stay away from me. Words of love in times like these. I’m gonna be with you 24 hours a day. A lot of people couldn’t stand that. But you can. You’ll be with me 24 hours a day. What a lucky man I am.”
He rounds out the performance by saying, It’s hard for Americans who don’t like being told what to do at all.” He added. “But in this case, let’s do it. We’ll be all right. Okay. All my love, everybody, bye.”
We love the way entertainers have been coming out to help people during the COVID-19 outbreak. Earlier this week we shared the news that Kristen Bell set up a At Home Camp project to help educated kids while at home. Others like Jeff Goldblum and John Stamos have been posting Disney-themed storytimes and The Rock has given us some awesome handwashing videos!
