What Is Disney Pin Trading?
For those that are new to Disney Pin Trading or are planning a late 2020 visit to the parks and are looking for something fun for kids (of all ages to do) we certainly recommend giving this much-loved Disney hobby a go!
So how does pin trading work? It’s pretty easy. First, you need to have some official Disney trading pins to start with! The shopDisney stock that’s being released tomorrow is a great way to start.
Once you’ve amassed a mini collection simply bring them to the parks or resorts with you. Many cast members will have lanyards with pins that you can swap yours out for. You’ll also find pinboards behind the counters in many shops from which you can swap out your pins and sometimes you may even want to trade with a guest (at your discretion.)
However, there are a few pin-trading tricks of the trade to be aware of:
Cast Members can’t say no to a pin trade. If a Disney Cast Member has pins available for trade, they can’t refuse to swap out with you even if they don’t like the pins you have! You also get to pick what pin of there’s that you want. You call the shots and therein lies the fun!
Beware of fake pins: Tomorrow’s shopDisney stock is a great place to pick up a handful of your favorites but be forewarned, pin trading can be pricey. That’s why a lot of people will pop over to Ebay to stock up on unwanted pins that have a low value. But be careful, there are lots of dodgy dealers out there selling fake pins and Cast Members are pros at spotting them. So be sure to check the feedback carefully and only go with reputable merchandise! And know that all pins you purchase through Disney are 100% genuine.
It pays to do some research: When you buy pins directly from Disney you know how much they cost because you bought them. However, sometimes when trading you may hit the jackpot and get a rare pin that is worth a good bit of money. Do some research prior to your visit and jot down some of the ones you’ll want to be on the lookout for. Rare pins are sought after and hard to find but you just might come across one!
Pin trading isn’t just limited to the parks: Now, more than ever, its important to remind guests that pin trading also happens over social media. There are a ton of users trading on Instagram, Youtube and Facebook. Different Disney parks around the world have different pins so its fun to interact with fans around the globe and amass an eclectic collection.
