A ‘Kingdom Keepers’ Show For Disney+ Was Almost a Thing According to Kevin Smith
We love director Kevin Smith, that’s why we were a little bit bummed when he came out with the news this week that he’d been working on a big writing gig for Disney that failed to come to fruition.
Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Smith revealed that he was working on a Kingdom Keepers series for Disney+, the company’s new streaming network but that the project was scrapped by a Disney exec over its excessive use of Disney IP.
In his post (which you can see below) Smith advised that it was supposed to be one of the first shows launched on Disney+
That was a blast to write 2 years ago. It was planned as one of the first shows to launch on what would become @disneyplus. Then a new exec was put in charge of the app and he killed KK. Said we used too much @Disney IP in one project (every character in the park comes to life). https://t.co/8izGTsg10H

Kingdom Keepers, for those unfamiliar, is a series of YA novels written by Ridley Pearson. It follows a group of teenagers who work as holographic hosts in the Disney theme parks as a day job but by night do battle with some of Disney’s most nefarious baddies. Each of these Villains is intent on destroying the theme parks then the world.
In a move that would certainly give the ABC show Once a run for its money, Comicbook.com points out that given the characters in the book, a Kingdom Keeper series could encompass “a truly wild number of characters.”
Though, as of going to print, the project remains shelved, we here at MickeyBlog are holding out hope that we may see this project surface at some point in the future.
In the meantime, we strongly encourage you to dive into the Kingdom Keepers novels while at home over the next few weeks! You can start with the first three in the box set here at Amazon!
