Recreate Some of Your Favorite Disney Characters With This Sensory Dough Recipe
Here at MickeyBlog, we’re coming at you with another awesome DIY project for the week ahead. This fun and colorful sensory dough recipe will provide fun for the whole family as you roll it, mold it and use it to re-create some of your favorite Disney characters.
With easy-to-make instructions and simple items that you’re sure to have around the house, we think its the perfect afternoon-at-home project. Give it a try following the instructions below and let us know what you think!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour per color or batch, plus a little extra for kneading
- 1 cup water per color
- 2 teaspoons olive oil per color
- Food coloring
- 1 teaspoon salt for taste (optional)
- Extracts for taste (optional)
Instructions:
Please Note: You’ll want to create each color of sensory dough separately.
Step 1: Add water and olive oil to a small pot.
Step 2: If opting to add salt, combine it with the flour in a small bowl.
Step 3: Bring the water and oil mixture to a boil, remove it from the heat and add 3-5 drops of food coloring and 1/2 teaspoon of extract (optional). Stir well.
Step 4: Slowly add in the flour mixture, adding a little bit of flour at a time.
Step 5: Dump the mixture out into a bowl and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
Step 6: Knead the dough for 5 minutes. You’ll need to add at least ¼ cup more flour as you knead. You can continue to sprinkle on more flour if the dough is still sticking to your hands.
Step 7: Repeat with additional colors.
Step 8: Encourage kids to use their imagination to build shapes and characters.
This recipe is the perfect way to strengthen fine motor skills and encourage your kids to get creative while at home this month. You can even store your sensory dough in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to a week. Parents should not that food coloring can get messy so kids shouldn’t wear their best clothes when helping you out in the kitchen!
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog as we continue to rustle up fun projects to keep the kids busy while at home!
