Bo Peep’s Absence From Toy Story 3 is Explained in A New Disney Short
Bo Peep and her warrior toy brigade was one of the highlights of Toy Story 4. But, the question of where she was for Toy Story 3 was never addressed. Now, a new short called “Lamp Life” is available on Disney+ and solves the mystery.
The short shows audiences where Bo has been between leaving Andy’s room and being reunited with Woody on the playground in Toy Story 4. The short starts with Woody telling his story, but quickly switches to Bo’s flashback.
We find out Bo went to several households, had several children who “loved her”, she finds herself in a donation box and eventually the antique store. She was even on a ship at one point.
Valeria LaPointe, the short’s writer and director, says she was inspired by a flashback sequence that was cut from Toy Story 4. She felt like Bo’s lost story needed to be told.
She tells IndieWire:
I dug up all of the cut scenes that we had [from the flashback], which were sad, and I was trying to look through the lens of how Bo would look back on her life.
Her personality would look back and say that she had a hard life, but she came out the other side as a better person, a better toy, she found a new way of life, and she can laugh at it. But in recounting what happened to her, the handful of gags were flipped from sad to funny.
