Disney Shuts Down All Construction at all Disney Parks
There is always construction happening at Disney Parks. Currently, Walt Disney World in Florida is gearing up for it’s 50th anniversary with construction to Cinderella’s Castle and new rides like TRON and Guardians of the Galaxy. Also, EPCOT is in the midst of a major refurbishment. However, in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus all construction at Disney Parks has been stopped.
This most recent of shut-downs was in reaction to the CDC’s recommendation that groups of people stay at 10 and less. Obviously, this would include construction sites full of workers. “They’re going to be closing a lot of construction sites,” Wylie said of the Central Florida region. “It’s already having a terrific impact on the economy.” (Source:Bizjournals/Orlando)
“Unfortunately, the CDC’s recommendation most likely will impact the theme parks’ plans”, said Dennis Speigel, founder and CEO with International Theme Park Services, a Cincinnati-based theme park consulting firm. “The timeframe has risen exponentially, and we are still in uncharted water.”
This puts all construction projects at Disney at risk. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was scheduled to open as early as Summer 2020. The much anticipated Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel, scheduled to open next year, may also miss its opening date.
Cinderella’s Castle was actively being refurbished even the day of the closure.

It is still unknown how much of an effect these closures will have on every aspect of the theme park industry or how long the closures will last. But, it is certain projects that were currently under construction will surely be delayed and not completed by the original opening date.
