“If I told you we are going to know something in two weeks I’d be lying. I might not be wrong – even a broken clock is right twice a day. But I would be lying because I don’t know… We’re in the midst of a global crisis and this is not about the film industry. I think everybody needs to do now whatever we can do, as we say here, to flatten the [coronavirus] curve.”
Avatar 2 Shuts Down Production
In the latest of the big movie productions to shut down due to COVID-19 is the set of Avatar 2. Producer Jon Landau confirmed today that production has been temporarily shut down.

Avatar 2 is currently filming in New Zealand. Although filming has stopped it seems the visual effects work will still happen. Here is the statement from Landau published in the New Zealand Herald:
“We’ve delayed it. We had plans to come down Friday night with a group of people and start back up and we made the decision to hold off and continue working here [Los Angeles], and come down there a little bit later than we’d planned.”
The cast of Avatar 2 includes Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Vin Diesel, and Jemaine Clement. Also included are returning cast members Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
There are five Avatar movies planned in the sequence. Avatar 2 is scheduled for December of 2021 and Avatar 5 (only released if the others are a success) is planned for 2027.
