Production Halts On Marvel’s Disney+ Shows Due To Coronavirus
Along with the theme parks, Marvel Studios has hit the breaks on Disney Plus shows that are currently in production due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus. This includes upcoming projects, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and WandaVision.
Some of Disney’s other programs are currently in pre-production which will be carried out remotely.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the first project to delay production due to a shooting schedule in Eastern Europe. Marvel’s upcoming Disney Plus series features returning cast members from the films, like Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
After the Winter Soldier shutdown announcement, Disney was quick to follow suit with other projects.
Tom Hiddleston and gang are also on hiatus with Loki. This show featuring the master of magic popping up at different times in human history thus altering past events is one of the most hotly-anticipated projects slated for Disney+. Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sophia Di Martino are also starring in the series. Loki was originally slated for an early 2021 debut. However, there’s no word as of yet as what impact the temporary shut-down will have on release dates.
The third series affected by the shut-downs is WandaVision which sees Paul Bethany and Elisabeth Olsen donning their capes once again as Vision and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) The series is expected to have sitcom-like elements and will be set in the 1950s.
And it’s not just Disney+ projects that are being impcated, the news comes after Disney suspended production on all of its live-action films. This includes “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.”
Other Disney films with halted production and pre-production include “The Last Duel,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Home Alone,” “Nightmare Alley,” “Peter Pan & Wendy” and “Shrunk.”
As of going to print, Disney has yet to give an indication of when production on all of the projects listed above will resume. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog and we promise to keep you posted.
