Tom Hanks, who Disney fan’s know and love as the voice of Woody in Pixar’s beloved Toy Story films, hold the unfortunate distinction of being the first celebrity to catch the Coronavirus along with his wife Rita Wilson.
Earlier this week, we here at MickeyBlog shared a tweet shared by the couple noting that they were now in quarantine Down Under.
Yesterday, amidst the chaos of Disney shuttering all of its theme parks worldwide, Hanks gave fans an update with some touching words of wisdom!
“Hello, folks. Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else,” he said. “There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”
He then signed off with a nod to his role as Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own, “Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball.”

Just a day earlier, the couple posted that they tested positive after exhibiting symptoms like tiredness, body aches, chills and slight fevers.
According to a recent piece in
CNN, the actor was in Australia doing pre-production work on a film about Elvis Presley where he’ll play the rock icon’s manager Tom Parker.
The article also tells us that as of going to print there are more than 120 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Australia. The government there just announced an $11.4 billion economic plan to support the countries economy during the pandemic.
After Rita Wilson paid a visit to Australia’s Nine Network, the channel had to set up a crisis response plan, placing employees in quarantine that came into contact with Wilson during her television appearance. Wilson also performed at Sydney Opera House on Saturday. Executives at this iconic venue have said that the Opera House has been disinfected and they’ve reached out to those who came into contact with the couple.
