Disney+ Cancels All London Launch Events Amidst Coronavirus Fears
This was supposed to be a big week for Disney+ as the new streaming network was slated to celebrate its European premiere (March 24th) with a few London events expected to take place today and tomorrow.
However, in the wake of increasing concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus, Disney has decided to cancel its London press event.
According to a piece in the Daily Mail, Disney issued the following statement, “Due to a number of media attendee cancellations and increasing concerns at the prospect of travelling internationally at this time, we have decided to cancel our Disney+ launch events scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday.”
Disney went on to add that the decision was made out of “an abundance of caution and with everyone’s best interests in mind.” As an alternative, media in the UK will be able to access the Disney+ Lounge which will be open for product demos starting tomorrow (March 5th.)
Disney+ is expected to launch in the UK and Europe on March 24th. This comes hot on the heels of Disney’s announcement that they have signed a multi-year deal with SKY to make Disney+ available in the UK and Ireland on both Sky Q and Now TV.
