Cirque Du Soleil Reveals Set and Amazing Acrobats For “Drawn To Life” Coming Soon to Disney Springs
As we inch ever closer to the opening of Cirque du Soleil’s new Disney Springs show “Drawn to Life” more awesome details are trickling in! This highly anticipated, new family-friendly show will officially premiere on April 17, 2020. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at cirquedusoleil.com/drawntolife.
“Interpreting the works from Disney’s spectacular catalogue of animation into a live show was a thrilling opportunity for Cirque du Soleil, and we couldn’t be more proud of this production,” explained Diane Quinn, Chief Creative Officer Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. “Together with Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering, we have created a stunning show that will inspire audiences to dream and reach for the impossible.”
Drawn to Life can best be described as an acrobatic journey. It tells the story of Julie a girl who discovers an unexpected gift from her father who is a Disney Animator – an unfinished animation. This is the catalyst for Julies inspiring quest guided by a surprising pencil and filled with childhood Disney memories!
The story is driven by 10 incredible acrobatic acts. This includes a Rhythmic Gymnastics group and an aerial pole routine (which you can see in the video below) as well as brand-new animation created by Disney Artists and led by Eric Goldberg who is best known for bringing the Genie from the animated Aladdin to life!
“Our show uses new technologies and art forms to portray the innate physicality of animation,” says Michel Laprise, Show Writer & Director. “During a number of the acts, classic Disney animation sequences come alive via contemporary projections, complementing the spectacular feats of our acrobats.
“Together Disney and Cirque du Soleil have created an incredible new family entertainment experience that is sure to awe audiences and touch the hearts of adults and children alike,” says Natalie Woodward, Vice President of Production for Disney Parks Live Entertainment. “Our two organizations are rooted in artistry and share a passion for creating memorable experiences. That’s one reason Drawn to Life is a show that could only come from the creative minds of Disney and Cirque du Soleil.
Audiences will be moved by this uninspired show and the incredible talent and strength of the acrobats. This is further enhanced by the stunning stage props. Stephane Roy, the shows award-winning Set Designer has worked wonders in creating a fully immersive world for Julies journey inside the world of animation.
The entire show plays out on a vast stage made to look like an Animator’s desk complete with sheets of paper surrounding the stage and a giant animator’s lamp overhead!
“Every aspect of the set design has been meticulously crafted by Stéphane, who left no detail of the animator’s world untouched. The size and scope of props used in the show are spellbinding,’’ says Fabrice Becker, Creation Director.
Bringing the entire show to life are an international cast of over 65 artists who will perform two shows per day! Shows will take place at Disney Springs Tuesday – Saturday.
