Steven Spielberg Won’t Be Back In the Director’s Chair For Indiana Jones 5
This week, various news outlets began reporting that Steven Spielberg will not be returning to direct Indiana Jones 5. The reigns have instead be passed on to “Ford v Ferrari” direction James Mangold.
This is not Mangold’s first time reviving a franchise. He famously took over the Wolverine films in 2017 with Logan becoming a massive box office success and going on to gross $619 million globally. Mangold even received an Oscar nomination for the film in the best screenplay category!
Variety is reporting that Spielberg will continue to be involved with the Lucasfilm project as a producer. According to the same report, Spielberg made “the decision to leave the directors chair… and pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation.
So what about the original Indiana Jones – Harrison Ford? Sources are saying that Ford is still connected to the project. He announced during a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning that he will begin work on the project this Spring. However, Ford backtracked a wee bit to the media after that saying scheduling and script were still being sorted out.
As for Spielberg, he still has an awful lot on his plate with “West Side Story” coming out through 20th Century Studios on December 18th.
