Disney Cast Members That Traveled To Italy Are Advised Not To Come To Work Over Coronavirus Concerns
According to a recent report on Fox35 out of Orlando, some employees at Disney World that recently travelled abroad are being advised to stay home from work as concerns continue to grow over the Coronavirus becoming a pandemic.
A Disney spokesperson confirmed to the news network that a small number of Cast Members have been advised to not come into work. However, Disney did not provide numbers of employees were advised to stay home. It is believed that those given leave had recently been to Italy where the number of cases particularly in the north of the country continues to increase.
As of going to print, it needs to be noted that there are currently no confirmed (or suspected) cases of the Coronavirus among Disney cast members and the measures highlighted above are merely a precaution.
In terms of other theme parks in the Orlando area, the Orlando Sentinel ran a piece earlier today advising that other theme parks like Universal Studios and SeaWorld are working alongside Disney World and with health officials to create a plan in the event of a pandemic.
“We are communicating with our team members and reinforcing our best-practice health and hygiene procedures. We are also educating them on basic preventive measures. We will continue to monitor the situation and be ready to act if needed,” Universal spokeswoman Alyson Lundell said in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel.
Over the past few days, tensions regarding the Coronavirus have grown due to the spread of the virus outside of China where it is thought to have originated. Adding to this was the announcement made by the Centers for Disease Control yesterday that the public needs to think about and start to prepare for an outbreak of the Coronavirus.
Here at MickeyBlog, we promise to keep you informed about any potential impact the Coronavirus may have on operations at the theme parks and with Disney Cruise Line. Keep following along.
