See How The Star Wars Narrative Timeline Fits Together With Some Help From Disney+
There’s Clone Wars, and Rebels and the Mandalorian. There are prequels, sequels and sagas galore! Keeping the entire Star Wars timeline straight can be daunting for even the most dedicated of fans! That’s why we’re giving a big MickeyBlog kudos to Disney+ for coming up with an invaluable infographic this week showing us how the whole timeline comes together across movies, series, cartoons and more!
Let’s take a look!
Pretty amazing right!?
As Cinema Blend points out, the timeline was created by Disney to celebrate the Season 7 Premiere of Star Wars: The Clone Wars which made its debut on Disney+ yesterday (February 22nd.)
The long-awaited conclusion of the Emmy Award-winning animated series has been given the title “The Bad Batch” and will consist of 12 new episodes released each week on the streaming network. This season, clone troopers Rex and Cody team up with an elite squad to solve a mystery. As you can see from the infographic above, The Clone Wars, takes place in the time between Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
All three prequels, as well as Clone Wars, are currently available to stream on Disney+. We were also excited to see that the considerably underrated Solo film is also headed to Disney+ soon! Though marred with last-minute directorial changes with Ron Howard pulled in at the last minute to clean up this film- we here at MickeyBlog are huge fans of this Han Solo origin story. It’s not surprising that the timeline supplied by Disney+ places the stand-alone film as coming in after Revenge of the Sith but before A New Hope (obviously) and also Star Wars Rebels.
Speaking of Star Wars Rebels, this animated CGI series ran from October 2014 – March 2018 on Disney XD. As you can see from the timeline above, Rebels was set five years before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. It tells the story of the beginning of the Rebellion while the Empire starts to extend its reach! All four series are currently available to stream on Disney+.
The leads us to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This standalone film is also currently available to stream on Disney+. It tells the story of a group of heroes who band together on a mission to steal plans to the Death Star. It’s a pivotal moment in the Star Wars timeline and an inspiring tale of ordinary people banding together to do extraordinary things- a theme we’ll definitely see throughout the rest of the Skywalker saga!

Next up is the massively important original trifecta that is New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi all of which are currently available to stream on Disney+
Bring in “The Child” and “Mando!” Next, we have the first original Star Wars project designated for Disney+. As you can see from the timeline above, the action of The Mandalorian takes place after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett and most importantly after the fall of the Empire. The First Order has not yet emerged. The title character is a lone gunfighter who is travelling the outer reach of the galaxy with some very precious cargo! Series one can be viewed in its entirety on Disney+ with a second season slated to come out later this year. Recent reports have surfaced that Disney and Lucasfilm are already envisioning 5 seasons of the series to complete Mandalorian’s story.
That brings us to the final three films in the Skywalker timeline: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Both Force and Last Jedi are available to stream on Disney+. The Rise of Skywalker which made its theatrical debut at the end of last year is not on Disney+ yet. However, Disney has it listed as coming soon! When it happens, it will be an exciting day for Star Wars fans meaning that all of the films in the Skywalker Saga will be available in one place to stream!
Last, but not least, running in tandem with the last three films in the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars Resistance ran for two seasons. It’s set prior to the events in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and follows a young pilot named Kaz who is recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the First Order. You can currently find it on Disney+
So where will upcoming Disney projects fit in the timeline? According to CinemaBlend, there are rumours of a High Republic series which would extend the timeline past the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Then there’s the Obi-Wan and Cassian Andor Disney+ series both of which would fit after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.
