Topiary specialist Rene Worrell escorted Spectrum News throughout Epcot’s backstage greenhouses and nursery. There are over 70 Disney characters created in topiary form for the festival. Worrell talks about the different tools the horticulturists use to fine-tune the topiary. In true Disney imagineering form, these range from curry combs (used for combing horses) to traditional hair pins.

Torres also states that each horticulturist works with an artist to make sure the topiaries are true to Disney character likeness. With The International Flower and Garden Festival beginning March 4th, I’m sure these talented cast members are putting the finishing touches on all the colorful characters.
