Onward Expected to Earn $44 Million at the Box Office
Less than a month away from the March 6th release of Disney/Pixar’s Onward, fans seem more than ready. The official trailer was released back in October and merchandise has already started hitting the shelves. Celebrity voices are everywhere in the movie.
Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tom Holland voice the characters of Onward as they adventure through their mysterious world to help bring back the full figure of lead character Ian’s father.
According to the website Deadline.com, many believe the $44 million dollar projection is low for Onward. “It’s the first time in the Emeryville, CA animation studio’s 34-year history that they’ve opened a movie in the first-quarter corridor” (D’Alessandro/Deadline.com).
March is the beginning of spring break for many schools and colleges and the target demographic for this movie will be searching for things to do and see.
It is widely known that the first quarter animated earning record belongs to Disney studios’ movie Zootopia. Pixar itself is coming off of the Oscar-winning Coco and several squeal films like Finding Dory, The Incredible 2 and Toy Story 4 (which just earned an Oscar for best animated feature).
All of these films had big-time opening weekends and the studio certainly hopes the projections for Onward are correct.
The March 6th release of Onward definitely “Cometh Soon” and watchers of the box office earnings will then know if $44 million is accurate for the newest film in the Pixar library.
