TRON Coaster on Track for 2021 Debut
Disney’s latest attraction at Magic Kingdom, TRON lightcycle/Run coaster seems to be on track for the promised 2021 debut. 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the park and anxious fans await not only TRON’s opening, but also what else Disney has planned for the celebration.
Disney recently filed a notice of commencement, a document that signals the start of new work on the coaster. This document cites “fabrication and installation” as the next step in construction. Could this signal the beginning of interior set installation in the main building of the attraction? If so, it is evidence the project is progressing.
Magic Kingdom’s TRON coaster is based on TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai DisneyLand. Both coasters will place riders in a two-wheeled cycle which allows them to race through the digital landscape of the movie TRON.
The contractor listed on the document is Icarus Exhibits Inc. the same company who worked on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the future Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. These attractions, along with the upcoming TRON coaster ,are all highly anticipated thrill attractions that show Disney’s effort to appeal to older children and adults as well as young children.
