Disney’s Riviera Resort Evacuated Guests Overnight
Disney’s Riviera Resort evacuated guests at approximately 1:30 AM this morning. At that time the fire alarms were set off on the 9th floor causing quite a stir while many were sleeping.
When the alarms sounded, guests were woken by a very loud beeping noise and an automated recording telling guests to evacuate the building immediately and do not use the elevator.
Guests evacuated the building and were gathered outside for a while before finally returning to the lobby and seeking out a cast member for further instruction. At that time a cast member gave the “all-clear” for guests to return to their rooms.
Upon further investigation, a cast member confirmed there was smoke coming from Topolino’s (one of Disney’s newest restaurants located on the top floor of the resort). The resorts’ protocol requires the floor below the restaurant (9th floor) to be evacuated in a situation like this. There is no confirmation on whether or not there was a fire.
At the end of the night (or should we say morning) guests were left feeling like this incident was not handled very well by Disney. Guests complained that there was very poor communication.
Disney’s Riviera Resort is the newest deluxe hotel on Walt Disney World property. The resort opened just months ago and has already faced a string of issues including pull-down beds collapsing off the walls.
