UPDATE: Emilio Estevez Will Star In The Mighty Ducks Series Coming To Disney+
Get ready for a big dose of Disney nostalgia! Disney Plus revealed the news earlier today that none other than Emilio Estevez will be resuming his role as Coach Gordon Bombay for The Mighty Ducks series which is currently under development for Disney’s streaming network Disney+!

The premise of the series sounds strikingly similar to the original Mighty Ducks films that were released in 1992, 1994 and 1996. Disney+ just revealed an official synopsis. Let’s take a look:
In present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Estevez), they discover the joys of playing just for the love of the game.”
Though the original The Mighty Ducks didn’t necessarily garner critical acclaim, it went on to become a bit of a 90’s cult-favourite along with similar films like The Sandlot, Rookie of the Year, Space Jam, Rudy etc.

According to a recent piece in Comicbook.com Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+ had this to say about having Emilio back, “It was an easy decision to bring back the Quack Attack with a modern and fresh twist. The Mighty Ducks’ stood for teamwork, friendship, and heart and we’re excited to see the Ducks fly together once again and bring the franchise to new audiences around the world. We are thrilled to have Emilio Estevez reprising his iconic role.”
Other actors cast in the series include Lauren Graham and Brady Noon. Also joining the cast are Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins and De’Jon Watts.
As of going to print, there is no word yet as to whether other members of The Mighty Ducks original cast will be returning to the series. However, this is a story we’ll be following closely so keep following along with MickeyBlog!
