Robert Zemeckis Closes Deal To Direct Live Action Pinocchio
Starting last year, we here at MickeyBlog began reporting on the fact that Disney had set its sights on a live-action version Pinocchio. Over the weekend Deadline shares some exciting news indicating that the project is closer to fruition – Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has officially closed the detail to direct and co-write the live-action adaptation.
Reports are surfacing that Chris Weitz will also share in the writing duties and that the project is slated to start by the end of 2020. As of going to print no casting details have been revealed.
There was a previous draft that Weitz collaborated with Simon Farnaby on but this will apparently be scrapped in favor of an updated version. The production will be produced through Andrew Miano and Weitz’s Depth of Field label. Pinocchio will be executive produced by Jack Rapke and Jackie Levine.
The original 1940 animated version of Pinocchio has grossed over $85 million at the lifetime domestic box office) and tells the classic story of a wooden puppet on his quest to become a “real boy.”
