9 Celebrity Cameos To Be On The Lookout For At Walt Disney World
There’s no doubt that the attractions at Walt Disney World are absolutely brimming with character. However, did you know that this is due in part to the awesome celebrities that have lent their voices or their likenesses over the years to help these awesome projects come to life? We thought we’d give you a brief rundown of a handful of the celebrity cameos you’ll want to be on the lookout for during your next Disney World visit.
Phylicia Rashad – Dinosaur
None other the Clair Huxtable serves as the Boss of the project on this Animal Kingdom dark ride. She briefs you just before you board your time machine to go back to the age of the Dinosaurs. CSI fans will also notice Wallace Langham.
Langham plays the role of Dino Institute scientist gone rogue. But you’ll also know him as David Hodges from CSI.
Judi Dench – Spaceship Earth
Over the years different celebrities have been called on to narrate Epcot’s iconic Spaceship Earth attraction. This includes both Jeremy Irons and Walter Cronkite. However, the most familiar of the Spaceship Earth narrators has to be Judi Dench. There’s just something so powerful about having M from the James Bond films take you on a historical look back at the history of the written word. Disney has announced changes to Spaceship Earth as part of Epcot’s massive re-imagining. There’s no word yet as to whether Judi will reprise her role.
Patrick Warburton – Soarin’
Patrick Warburton has one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood and many fans consider his pre-show cameo on Epcot’s Soarin’ to be one of the highlights of this beloved hand gliding simulator. So much so that when Disney changed the storyline a few years back fans were in an uproar over the possibility of losing Warburton as narrator. However, in the end, Disney opted not to touch the intro meaning you’ll still see him during your visit. But where else do you know that voice? He was the voice of Kron in Hercules and also lent his talents to Family Guy.
Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy – Canada Far And Wide
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing exciting details about a brand new film coming to Epcot’s Canada Pavilion. “O Canada” which was narrated by Martin Short will now be updated to feature a new musical score as well as a new narration by award-winning actors Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy. You’ll know them as the hilarious couple in Schitt’s Creek as well as from movies like Best in Show.
Ty Burell – Awesome Planet
A new film has opened up in Epcot’s Land Pavilion that features none other than Modern Family’s Ty Burell. The film explores the beauty, diversity and dynamic story of Earth. In collaboration with Disney’s Conservation Fund, the 10-minute film features in-theater effects (including wind, scents, and water) to tell the story of life on this planet and why it’s important to care for the Earth.
Paul Reubens- Oga’s Cantina
If the new RX-24 droid assigned as a DJ at Oga’s Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge seems familiar it might be because you remember his as Captain Rex from Star Tours. The droid is was Paul Reubens who you’ll either know as the supreme baddie in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or as Pee-Wee Herman.
Steven Tyler – Walt Disney World
This Aerosmith frontman is the last person you’d expect to have a presence among Mickey Mouse, Donald and the gang. However, Aerosmith boasts their own attraction- Hollywood Studios’ Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. One of Disney World’s biggest thrill rides, this indoor coaster shows the band running late to a gig in a pre-show clip before you board a stretch limo and race off to make it to the show on time. Tyler along with the rest of the band (and some help from Illeana Douglas) are there to bring the experience to life. Tyler has even been known to pass by the Orlando attraction from time to time to go for a spin and pose for photos with fans!
Johnny Depp – Pirates of the Caribbean
After Depp’s successful turn as Captain Jack Sparrow in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, updates were made to this classic Adventureland attraction to incorporate elements of the storyline. This means that you’ll see Johnny Depp’s likeness in various scenes throughout the boat ride. In addition, Depp provided voice-over work for the attraction to tie it all together. In addition, Depp famously showed up as part of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction some years back dressed as Jack Sparrow to the utter surprise of guests!
Eric Idle – Journey Into the Imagination With Figment
Fans of Figment will not only know Eric Idle as the Monty Python comedian but also Dr. Nigel Channing the leader of Imagination Research at Epcot’s Imagination Institute. Serving as narrator/voice of reason, Idle spends most of the ride fretting over Figment’s creative pranks. He’s guaranteed to have you singing “One little spark of inspiration…” in no time!
