Casting Call: Disneyland is Holding Character Auditions
If you have aspirations of being the next Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan or even Captain America then listen up! Disneyland has kicked off 2020 by announcing a series of casting calls looking for new performers to take on the roles of princesses, superheroes, race cars and possible even Mickey himself!
The Disney Auditions website has recently posted four casting calls for this month looking for “high energy, engaging performers with improvisational skills and slender to athletic builds” to play Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
A call for headshot photos on Friday, Jan. 3 sought Disney character look-alikes who can play Ariel, Belle, Moana, Rapunzel, Tiana, Jasmine, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Prince Charming or Captain America. Performers interested in playing Wakanda warrior Dora Milaje from “Black Panther” must be willing to shave their head. The part-time meet-and-greet roles start at $15.75 per hour.
If you missed the boat on the Photo Submission, there is a Disney Auditions casting call on January 18th at the Disney Performing arts Studios for performers to get behind the wheel of Cars Land characters beginning in Mid-March. The audition calls for “Outgoing, energetic and enthusiastic candidates need to be between 5 foot-2 and 5 foot-8 with a clean DMV driving record.” It also states that The Disney Parks Live Entertainment parade performers need to be comfortable in confined spaces and able to repeatedly get in and out of float vehicles. Race car Lightning McQueen and Mater the tow truck make regular appearances in Cars Land.
There’s also an audition call at the Onstage Dance Center in Downey on January 31st for “sculpted character performers” to sign autographs and pose for guest photos. That’s Disney speak for characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck etc. They are looking for characters in 2 height ranges foot-7 1/2 to 5-foot-3 and 6-foot to 6-foot-4. Those auditioning would need to be comfortable wearing full-body costumes, standing for long periods of time, and enduring the elements. Full-time positions may be available for certain characters. Though specific characters weren’t mentioned in the Audition description, the shorter height requirements often indicate characters like Minnie Mouse or Daisy Duck. The taller requirement could be for anything from Chewbacca and Goofy to Groot!
