7 Awesome Facts About Rise of the Resistance
For anyone that has paid a visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge you know that there’s no limit to the fun you can have. From building your own lightsaber to jamming out to DJ Rex’s tunes in Oga’s Cantina- it’s time to live your own unique adventure. However, things have recently been punched to hyperdrive with the epic opening of Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this week!
On this new ride, which we guarantee is nothing like you’ve ever experienced before, guests find themselves at a secret Resistance base where Rey appears with a warning transmission for you – the First Order is her! Now it’s up to you to get off Batuu! You board an I-TS to get away but you’re too late! Trapped on a Star Destroyer heaving with stormtroopers, First Order offers and even Kylo Ren you need to figure out how to get out danger! Fortunately, you have a few awesome allies including Finn!
And if that’s not enough to get your heart racing then here are seven more interesting facts about Disney’s newest groundbreaking attraction.
1. It’s one of the most technologically advanced Disney Parks attractions of all time.
From the moment you get in line until the time that you exit the ride, the world of Star Wars comes to life in ways that might not have thought possible. This attraction features high tech wizardry on an intergalactic scale including multiple ride systems, a new simulator experience that gives guests the sensation of falling from space and trackless riding vehicles.
And don’t get us started on the characters. There are a massive amount of Audio-Animatronics figures representing iconic characters from the saga giving guests the ability to adventure alongside your favorite Star Wars characters.
2. It’s a 360° experience.
John Larena, executive creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering, explains, “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is an immersive experience like you’ve never been on before, with fully realized blaster bolts in midair, holograms, AT-ATs… this is truly a 360-degree attraction.” This means that no matter where you look there is something incredible taking place to inform the storyline. Whether it’s stumbling into a room with AT-AT walkers to fleeing across a Star Destroy from Kylo Ren you’ll definitely be feeling the adrenaline and exhilaration of being apart of the action.
3. This adventure takes place in between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker.
For those wondering where the ride fit’s in on the Star Wars timeline Chaing explains, “The Lucasfilm design team and the Walt Disney Imagineering design team worked together seamlessly as one team, essentially.” Together, the teams crafted a story that flows perfectly into the timeline of Star Wars films: Jumping into the action after the battle of Crait in Star Wars: The Last Jedi this attraction bridges the gap between 2017’s The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker coming out this month!
4. The Hangar Bay features an impressive 50 stormtroopers.
One of the moments we’ve heard visitors comment about the most is the trip you take to the Star Destroyer’s Hangar Bay. It features an incredible 50 stormtroopers lined up to observe after your I-TS has been taken by the First Order. According to Chiang, creating such an impactful scene was important to Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering: “You have the spectacle and scope of cinema, and yet the grounding of a real-life theme park.”
5. You’ll see some familiar faces
You’re greeted by BB-8’s cheerful beeps in the briefing room before a hologram of Rey appears to give you the news: The Resistance Base on Batuu is compromised. You must flee to General Organa’s secret base before the First Order catches you! ! In your adventures to escape the First Order, a host of Star Wars characters are there to help you along the way. This includes favorites like Poe Dameron, Finn, and Nien Nunb. Not all familiar faces are friendly. You’ll also experience intense encounters with both Kylo Ren and General Hux.
6. And meet some new allies!
The fishy-faced Mon Calamari species has held a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans for some time, whether we’re quoting Admiral Ackbar or peeking in on the Mon Calamari working away in the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue queue. Now there’s a new Mon Calamari friend to add to our favorites—Lieutenant Bek. This original character was created just for the attraction. It’s his job to help us escape the First Order! Along with Bek, you also get some help from a First Order astromech-turned-ally. Going by the name of R5, the droid pilots your vehicle as you race to escape the Star Destroyer. “He’s very reactive to whatever is happening around you,” Larena tells us—so pay attention to where that droid is looking, because you never know where he’ll drive your transport next.
7. …Plus, more surprises are in store!
We here at MIckeyBlog thought we’d let some of the highlights be a surprise. Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm have been hard at work creating a cinematic experience like no other. For that reason, some elements are definitely worth waiting for!
