ABC To Air Primetime Special – ‘Celebrating Stan Lee’ on December 20th
Marvel fans assemble! On December 20th beginning at 8 pm EST, you can celebrate the life and legacy of Marvel’s Stan Lee with an ABC primetime special.
Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee was filmed in front of a live audience at The New Amsterdam Theater in New York City and takes viewers on an action-packed journey throughout the life of Lee via never-before-seen interviews and archive footage from deep within the Marvel and ABC news archives!
Lee leaves quite the legacy and is considered one of the most prolific and legendary comic creators of all time. With a career spanning an unbelievable 7 decades Lee dreamed up many of Marvel’s most iconic characters including Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Iron-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men and Black Panther.
The special will feature stars like Tom Hiddleston, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Saquon Barkley, Mark Hamill, Jimmy Kimmel, Method Man, Darryl DMC McDaniels, Kevin Feige, Kevin Smith, Deborah Ann Woll, Joe Quesada, Seth Green, Bob Iger and more who are on hand to recount their memories with Stan Lee
Lee is known for his vivid and engaging prose and imbibed his heroes with real-world problems and realistic human failings thus making them relatable to fans of all ages. Lee also never shied away from social commentary on a wide range of issues from race to substance abuse. After years serving as Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief, Lee became Marvel’s editorial director and publisher before being named chairman emeritus.
However, most modern fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will know Lee for his cameos in some of the most popular films of all time. His first cameo happened in the 1989 telefilm The Trial of the Incredible Hulk and since the release of X-Men in 2000 he has appeared in almost every Marvel production. This includes 22 Marvel Studios films. He also made appearances on tv shows including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Agent Carter and Daredevil. Lee even plaid a LEGO version of himself in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.
“As a young man, Stan ‘The Man’ Lee always dreamed of writing, going on to create some of the greatest heroes of our modern times,” said Joe Quesfada, Executive Vice President, Creative Director of Marvel Entertainment. “Stan showed each of us how to be a hero in our everyday lives, and the stories he wrote will go on to influence generations of fans for decades to come. We can’t wait for all you True Believers out there to see this special to honor and celebrate Stan’s incredible life and all the lives he has touched.”
Celebrating Marvel’s Stan Lee is produced by ABC News in association with Marvel. John R. Green serves as executive producer and Matt Lombardi is co-executive producer.
