10 Disney+ Films Perfect For Family Movie Night
The turkey has been eaten, the washing up has been done so why not find a comfy blanket and curl up with one of these awesome films now available on Disney+ which we think are absolutely perfect for movie night!
Miracle on 34th Street
This Christmas Classic was a major score for Disney when they acquired for 20th Century Fox earlier this year. This film features Edmund Gwenn as an elderly gentleman named Kris Kringle who works as a department store Santa Claus and really brings the Christmas spirit. The plot centers around Santa going on trial in New York City with all of Manhattan seemingly ponders if Santa is real. It also features a young Natalie Wood as a true believer of the magic of Christmas.
Noelle
Confession. This might be my new favorite Christmas movie ever! If you haven’t seen it, you’ll want to! Anna Kendrick stars at Noelle the daughter of Santa Claus and when he passes away the sister to his successor. When the pressure becomes too much for her brother Noelle steps into those big wintry boots and saves Christmas!
Star Wars: A New Hope : Episode IV
Ahh, the film that started it all. Many of us grew up with this film, but if your kids have only seen the more recent incarnations there’s no time like the present to introduce them to the original! Re-live the magic of the beginning of Luke’s journey from farm boy to one of the greatest Jedi the galaxy has ever known; the first spark between Han and Leia that ignited one of cinema’s most iconic romances; and to hear again that first ominous breath emanate from Darth Vader’s helmet. This is the family movie night you’ve been waiting for.
Guardians of the Galaxy
It wouldn’t be holiday movie watching without at least one film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’ve opted for this 2014 filck because it never fails to make me laugh. GOTG stands on its own as an introduction to an unforgettable group of disparate misfits—Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord; gun-toting raccoon Rocket; tree-like humanoid Groot; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer—as well as a thrilling adventure that sets up key events in the Infinity Saga. Plus, the film’s killer soundtrack will have even the most reticent toes tapping before they know it.
One Hundred and One Dalmatians
This is a Disney classic sure to please the whole family! From hummable songs to cut and cuddly puppies there’s so much to love about 101 Dalmations. Add to that one of Disney’s most formidable baddies in Cruella de Vil and you’ve got all the fixings for an entertaining family movie night!
The Game Plan (2007)
If it is hard to tear your mister away from football then you can see this movie as a bit of a fun Disney compromise! This family comedy stars Dwayne Johnson as Joe Kingdom, a famous Boston quarterback who must face his biggest challenge yet. No, not a Super Bowl win but rather fatherhood!
Inside Out
Joy. Fear. Anger. Disgust. Sadness. While there’s no doubt that Joy will be manning the console throughout your holiday season, Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out serves as a perfect reminder that her fellow Emotions play an important role in everyone’s inner life, as well. The film features a hilarious cast—led by Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith as Joy and Sadness, respectively, with Bill Hader as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, and Richard Kind as the incomparable Bing Bong This moving and relatable story about what a bumpy road growing up can be will definitely have you feeling the warm fuzzies by the end.
Free Solo
See what all the fuss is about with this award-winning documentary about free solo climber Alex Honnold you sets ut to scale the face of 3,200 El Captain in Yosemite National Park without so much as a rope. This film from National Geographic will have you and your entire family on the edge of your seats from start to finish.
The Cat from Outer Space
Here’s a fun one from the vaults Disney friends! (1978 to be exact.) The film follows Jake, a cat from outer space! He crash-lands his spaceship on Earth and meets a human named Frank who he enlists to help him escape the U.S. Army. Sound crazy? It is but good crazy – we promise!
The Muppets
The Muppets brought our favorite felt friends back to the big screen after a 12-year hiatus, with this most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational on-screen reunion. Walter is the world’s biggest Muppet fan (for reasons that quickly become clear when you meet him in the film) and he’ll let nothing stop his quest to thwart a diabolical plot to destroy the Muppet Theater—not a second-rate tribute band of “Moopets” and especially not a greedy oil millionaire. The Muppets stars Jason Segal, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones and features cameos by several dozen celebrities, continuing a longstanding cinematic Muppets tradition. There’s no movie like a Muppet movie!
So get cozy, make the popcorn and enjoy a Thanksgiving evening Disney-style.
