Disney Reportedly Working on Live-Action Dragon Ball Movie
Though Disney is undoubtedly celebrating the launch of their Disney+ streaming service which has already cultivated over 10 million subscribers in under a week, the media juggernaut shows no signs of slowing! As a matter of fact, a recent report on We Got This Covered suggests that Disney may be setting its sights on a new live-action film! And no, it’s a re-adaptation of one of their animated classics but rather a version of one of the giants in the Anime world- Dragon Ball.
According to sources, Disney is working on a live adaptation of Dragon Ball that will feature an exclusively Asian cast and will be given a hefty budget to boot. Word on the street is that executives think this could be one of Disney’s next blockbuster franchises.
Though it might seem left-field for those unfamiliar with Anime, it is actually a cultural icon that has inspired numerous movies, TV specials, trading cards, action figures, video games and so much more! Though Dragon Ball has developed a massive following worldwide most of the films and productions listed above have been produced in Japan.
As We Got This Covered points out, Dragon Ball is one of the top 20 highest-grossing media franchises of all time and has generated over $20 billion in total revenue!
At this early stage, it’s hard to separate Dragon Ball fact from fiction. However, this is a story that we’ll be watching closely and promise to keep you posted!
