“The Little Mermaid Live!” Is Top Made-for-TV Musical in Nearly 4 Years
ABC was definitely the channel to watch last Tuesday night. Were you able to catch “The Little Mermaid Live!”? Well if you did, you definitely weren’t alone. The Nielsen ratings are in and “The Little Mermaid Live!” is now the top Made-For-Tv musical in nearly 4 years! It catapulted ABC’s Tuesday night viewers to achieve its strongest performance since March 2018. Plus, with ABC’s “Emergence” following right afterwards, the show scored its highest-rated telecast since its season opener.

ABC Tuesday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.1 million and 2.0/9 in AD18-49):
With “The Little Mermaid Live!” from 8:00-10:00 p.m. leading into “Emergence” at 10:00 p.m., ABC was the dominant No. 1 network on Tuesday night in Adults 18-49 (2.0/9), towering over runner-up NBC by 82% (1.1/5). Scoring season highs on the night, ABC delivered its strongest Tuesday night with entertainment programming since March 2018 in both Total Viewers (7.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.0/9) – since 3/27/18.
“The Little Mermaid Live!” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 9.0 million and 2.6/12 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live!” scored a massive 2.6 rating/12 share in Adults 18-49 to stand as the highest-rated made-for-TV musical on any network in nearly 4 years – since Fox’s “Grease” on Sunday, 1/31/16. In fact, “The Little Mermaid Live!” stood as the top-rated entertainment telecast on any network since the May series finale of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” – since Thursday, 5/16/19. “The Little Mermaid Live!” was easily the highest-rated program of the night in Adults 18-49 (2.6/12), dominating NBC’s “The Voice” (1.3/6) and “This Is Us” (1.3/6) by 100% each.
- “The Little Mermaid Live!” was Tuesday’s No. 1 most social entertainment telecast across broadcast and cable, earning 716,000 total social interactions across Instagram (43%), Twitter (43%) and Facebook (14%).
“Emergence” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.5 million and 0.7/4 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Emergence” shot up over the prior week by 35% in Total Viewers (3.5 million vs. 2.6 million) to draw its largest audience in 5 weeks and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/4 vs. 0.5/3) to hit its best rating since its series opener – since 10/1/19 and 9/24/19, respectively.
- On average through the first 5 weeks of the season, ABC’s “Emergence” is the No. 1 gainer on the broadcast networks in Total Viewers, soaring by +108% over its L+SD average after 7 days of TV playback. In addition, the freshman ABC drama more than doubles its L+SD Adult 18-49 rating, spiking by +117% with 7 days of playback. In fact, “Emergence” is Tuesday’s No. 1 broadcast gainer in TV playback this season in both Total Viewers (+108%) and Adults 18-49 (+117%).
