‘The Lion King’ Ticket Sales Break Record for Advanced Sales
In the first 24 hours of the advanced ticket sales, the live-action Disney film The Lion King rung up the second best first-day sale of the year for Fandango after Avengers: Endgame, while Atom Tickets declares it’s the company’s best first-day sales for a family movie.
The Lion King had the ticket sellers best first day sales, beating out 2017’s Beauty and the Beast which was the record holder.
Tickets went on sale at 6 AM PT, June 24th for the live-action feature adaptation of the 1994 Disney animated feature toon, which opens July 19.
The classic Disney film will be brought to the screen in a live-action format utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques. However, the storyline will remain true to the one we all know and love. The cast features a star-studded lineup including Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Nala), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), and Billy Eichner (Timon).
“Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother- and former heir to the throne- has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy, and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.” (Walt Disney Studios)
