Ultimate Guide to the Disney World Wedding Chapel
Within the last 10 days, I know of 3 women who made the leap from fiancé to bride. A male friend became a husband just this past weekend. In the midst of this wedding fever, only three of my friends did not attend a wedding yet this season; two of them will fly to Boston to bring the total down from 3 to 1. None of these are a Disney World wedding, but see why they’re magical!
If it seems like everyone you know is permanently pairing off and saying ‘I do’ these days, you’re certainly not alone. Even if you don’t know of anyone in your personal life marrying in 2019, you’ve probably seen the Disney Fairytale Weddings special highlighting lucky couples who got to say their vows in front of Cinderella Castle.
The countless photos of gorgeous gowns and personalized wedding hashtags (I still can’t get behind that trend) succeeded in turning my roommate into a wannabe bride, and since she is nowhere near getting married herself, she’s been living out her dream childhood wedding through the dresses and flowers on her phone screen.
I’m nowhere near marriage either, and instead of looking to Instagram, I did her one better. On a recent Walt Disney World Resort vacation, I had exclusive access to Disney’s Wedding Chapel. Completely empty. At sunset.
Step Into a Fairytale
On the approach, the pristine white paint on the exterior is highlighted by soft yellow lighting that draws the eye first to the conjoined golden rings fixed above the gate then across the bridge to the doors of the venue. Before I let myself bask in the view of that gorgeous main chapel, I first stopped off at the respective prep rooms reserved for members of the wedding party to dress and calm their nerves.
The Cinderella themeing becomes apparent here as subtle nods to the film can be seen by way of paintings, color schemes, and of course, a ‘clock strikes 12’ mirror! The waiting areas- complete with big comfy couches and floor-to-ceiling mirrors- would have been too comfy to leave were it not for the promise of that ever-famous view waiting for me!
A Setting Fit for a Princess
An arched stained-glass window behind the altar serves as a gorgeous frame for the famed, much sought-after view of Cinderella Castle, situated just across the water. After staring at my favorite architectural structure through that window with my mouth agape for longer than I probably realized, the tall vaulted ceilings drew my eye upwards. A crystal chandelier, lighted by perfectly-aimed mini spots, gleamed and glistened above the aisle.
I sat in one of the pews while I pictured the chapel full of guests, bridal parties, groomsmen, and a couple waiting to start the rest of their lives together in the most perfect wedding venue I’ve ever seen. When I crossed back over the bridge and heard the gates lock behind me, I made a wish upon a star that I would someday be back in the chapel to witness it in all its glory…hosting a wedding!
