Galaxy’s Edge Opening Coverage by MickeyBlog.com
Years in the making, the anticipation ended for select members of the Disney-loving community as Bob Iger, George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and — yes — even Harrison Ford made the trip to Anaheim, California to cover the unveiling of “Star Wars Land” – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening at Disneyland….
And, of course, MickeyBlog.com was there to cover the festivities.
Mr. Iger Opens “Star Wars Land” at Disneyland
“Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is absolutely amazing and we are thrilled to finally share it with the world,” said Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company in a release.
“Now, for the first time, fans will be able to immerse themselves in the iconic stories that have captured audiences’ imaginations for decades and live their own Star Wars adventures in the most creative, innovative and ambitious land we’ve ever built.”
Our own Greg Antonelle was on hand to provide first-hand Galaxy’s Edge opening coverage. Star Wars fans curious about the 14-acre Disneyland expansion and all the goodies waiting around each corner of Black Spire Outpost in Batuu will enjoy the replay of his feed.
Galaxy’s Edge Opening Coverage – Walking In
Disneyland PR described the scene in and around Black Spire Outpost:
The Walt Disney Company celebrated the momentous dedication of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge tonight in an epic ceremony at Disneyland Park. Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger unveiled the largest and most technologically advanced single-themed land expansion ever in a Disney park, which is set to open to the general public at Disneyland Park on May 31, and also at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on Aug. 29.
“I’m a little kid; it’s Christmas day…” was how Greg described walking into the expanse, and witnessing each nuance of the new land.

Opening Ceremony
Then Greg — and seemingly the rest of the galaxy — watched as the official dedication ceremony streamed live.
Disneyland’s official news team described the scene:
To dedicate Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Iger was joined in front of the Millennium Falcon by Star Wars icons including George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams. In a ceremony set to the soaring John Williams score composed especially for the land, global media and invited guests were the very first to see the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy roar to life.

Emotional Exploration
“To say I had chills is an understatement,” was Greg’s reaction to seeing Iger (the Emporer?) The Maker, Luke, Han, and Lando on stage together.
But then it was time to explore…
