8 Ways To Add a Bit of Indiana Jones to Your Next Disney Getaway
The month of May marks the 35th Anniversary of the epic film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and there’s no better place to celebrate this Indy milestone than by paying a visit to Disney! To help wish a happy birthday to this much-loved film, we’ve come up with 8 ways that you can add a bit of Indiana Jones to your next Disney visit!
1. Indiana Jones Adventure – Disneyland
This journey through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye has reached cult-like status. One of the things we here at MickeyBlog love so much about the attraction is that it’s full of secrets and fun details and also includes several real-life props from Indiana Jones films! For instance, be on the lookout for the German Patrol Trucks in the outside queue area. These were actually used in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Also, look out for the mine car seen just outside the attraction’s exit which was used during the mine sequence of Temple of Doom.
2. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar -Disneyland Resort
While we’re on the West Coast let’s make a pit-stop at another location with a bit of Indy lore! Inside this much-loved Tiki Bar, you’ll find a ton of memorabilia that pays home to Disneyland Classics like Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and the Jungle Cruise. But did you also know that Indiana Jones’ iconic bullwhip is also on display at the bar!? In addition, you’ll also find an ancient scroll or two depicting the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.
3. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) – Walt Disney World Resort
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Indiana Jones than with a behind-the-scenes look at some of the awesome stunts from the films. This show marked the first Indiana Jones attraction at a Disney park and features several key scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark including the iconic boulder scene and the climactic fight around the airplane!
4. Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) – Walt Disney World
True Indy fans won’t want to miss the opportunity to stock up on some amazing merchandise. This shop near the Epic Stunt Spectacular features some of Indy’s most iconic props including his fedora!
5. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Disneyland and Walt Disney World
So what’s the connection between Indiana Jones and these iconic coasters? This classic attraction was actually one of the inspirations for the runaway mine car sequence in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! The mine sound effects from the film were actually even recorded at the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland.
6. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar (Disney Springs) – Walt Disney World
This Disney Springs watering hole was actually named after Indiana Jones’ trusty pilot from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is THE place to go for any adventurer looking to try a “jocktail” and sit back and relax after a day spent adventuring. The bar is full of mementoes including coasters from bars Lindsey visited during particularly daring missions. Also, keep an eye out for other details like the Staff of Ra’s headpiece or a picture of Lindsey and Indy together in from of “The Fountain of Youth.”
7. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril– Disneyland Paris
For adventurers with your sights set on Europe then you won’t want to miss one of our favorite Disneyland Paris attractions. This thrilling coaster sends you on your own Temple of Doom mine cart chase with Indy himself! When you’re not plummeting down ominous drops or make 360 loops take time to check out some of this attraction’s amazing details including lion statues and a base camp featuring Indy’s personal tent!
8. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull – Tokyo DisneySea
Want to head even further afield? Then head over to this awesome attraction that first debuted in 2001. This adventure takes us into a different temple inspired by an entirely different part of the world – Central America. Guarded by the supernatural and vengeful Crystal Skull we join Indy on a quest for the Fountain of Youth. This attraction features familiar trills and new challenges (like a Crystal Skull that shoots fire!)
