6 Ways to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World
We are a mere 3 days away from May 5th and you know what that means – Cinco de Mayo! If you’re lucky enough to be at Disney World on Sunday then we recommend heading over to Disney’s Epcot theme park for some festive fun. You’ll definitely want to make your first port-of-call the Mexican Pavilion which is filled with festive ways to celebrate this special day. Here are a handful of our favorites:
1. Ride the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros
This ride drew its inspiration from the 1944 Disney film “The Three Caballeros.” This gentle boat ride will take you through the Mexico pavilion and some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico where Panchito and Jose and Donald Duck adding to the fun.
2. Visit the Mexico Folk Art Gallery
Fan’s of Pixar’s Coco won’t want to miss “Remember Me!” – La Celebración del Día de Muertos. This exhibit highlights Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations. The gallery also features art by renowned Mexican artists including some amazing Calaveras (decorative skulls made of sugar) as well as pre-Hispanic art, and an iconic Bridal Couple sculpture.
3. Go Shopping at La Tienda Encantada
Located in the heart of the Mexico pavilion, this fantastic shop features fine jewellery, tooled leather goods and colorful accessories inspired by the charm and beauty of old Mexico.
4. Enjoy an Avocado Margarita from La Cava de Tequila
For adults visiting Walt Disney World, it wouldn’t be Cinco de Mayo without a Margarita. Those looking to enjoy this festive drink will want to stop by La Cava de Tequila nestled inside the Pavilion where their Avocado Margarita has reached cult-like status. It’s made up of Tequila Avión Blanco, Melon Liqueur, fresh Avocado, Agave Nectar and fresh Lime Juice served Frozen with Hibiscus Salt Rim. It is nothing short of delicious!
5. Feast at San Angel Inn Restaurante
For those looking for an Epcot meal with a bit of ambiance, it doesn’t get better than this Table Service eatery nestled in the Mexican Pavilion near the Gran Fiesta ride. The restaurant will make you feel like you’re enjoying an evening feast in Mexico complete with the sounds of distant songbirds, a Mayan pyramid, the rumble of a distant volcano and delicious Mexican cuisine!
6. Meet Donald
Commemorate your Cinco de Mayo visit with this awesome Donald photo op. You’ll find Donald just outside the Mexican Pavilion dressed in his TheThree Caballeros gear. He’s usually available to meet guests throughout the day from about noon until 7pm.
