Is There a Dinner Dress Code When Sailing With Disney Cruise Line?
If you’re setting sail with Disney Cruise Line for the first time, knowing what to pack for your voyage at sea can be a tricky business. I get asked quite a bit about what sort of dress code is required when setting embarking on a Disney Cruise and thought I give you a heads up about the different dress codes you main encounter when sailing!
On the whole, Disney Cruise Line maintains a “Cruise Casual” dress code for evening meals. This means that you don’t have to dress up but that swimwear or tanks tops are not allowed. However, depending on the length of sailing dress codes may vary. Let’s take a look!
3 and 4-night Sailings
On these sailings, there is usually an optional Semi-Formal Dress-Up evening for guests who enjoy getting gussied up while cruising. The guidelines suggest that ladies wear either a dress or a pant-suit and that gentlemen wear a shirt and tie.
7-Night Cruises
During these 7-night sailings, most evening meals are cruise casual. You’ll also find a special themed night (more on that in a moment) one formal night and one semi-formal night (However both the formal and semi-formal nights are optional).
Pirate Night
There may be special themed nights happening during your Disney Cruise Line sailing. Often this is a special Pirate Night and depending on the time of year you sail and may also include Marvel, Star Wars, Halloween or Christmas. During these themed evenings guests are allowed to wear costumes to dinner (at the rotational dining restaurants) to add to the fun!
In addition to the restaurants included in Disney’s rotational dining offerings, there are also two adults-only restaurants for grown-ups looking for a romantic evening on board the ship. These can be booked at an additional cost. These restaurants carry their own dress codes. Let’s take a look:
Palo
You’ll find this restaurant on all four ships in Disney’s fleet. This eatery focuses on Northern Italian Cuisine and is typically open for brunch and dinner. Those making a reservation here should be advised that Palo recommends that men wear a shirt with a collar and dress pants or slacks. A jacket is not required. It is suggested that women wear a dress, pants, or a skirt with a blouse. Palo will allow jeans however it is preferred that they are not torn.
Remy
Remy is an additional adults-only eatery found aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. It offers classic French Cuisine. Having dined at both Palo and Remy, I find Remy to be slightly more formal. With this comes a slightly more strict dress code. For example. at dinner, it is recommended that women wear a cocktail dress, evening dress, pantsuit or skirt with a blouse. It is advised that men wear a jacket (tuxedo or sport) along with dress pants, slacks and shoes. Shorts, jeans, capris, sneakers, sandals or flip-flops are not permitted when having at Remy. Those booked at Remy for a brunch or dessert tasting event will find the dress code a bit more casual. For men, this means dress pants and a shirt. For women dresses or pantsuits are recommended. Similar to dinner no jeans, shorts, capris, sneakers, sandals or flip-flops.
Disney Cruise Line Formalwear Rental
For men hoping to look dapper on the day, it is possible to leave the tux at home and still look the part on Formal Night thanks to a rental service available with Disney Cruise Line. Disney has partnered with a company called Cruiseline Formalwear which rents out tuxedos to you during your sailing. You can take a sneak peek at the types of suits available by visiting their website here and clicking on the Disney Cruise Line link.
