New 270 Acre Solar Facility Brings Clean Energy to Walt Disney World
Yesterday Disney announced that a massive 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility is officially online and is providing renewable clean energy to Walt Disney World as we speak! The project was a collaboration between Disney, the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origins Energy USA.
This incredible new facility is expected to harness enough energy from the sun to operate two of Disney’s four main theme parks! In addition, it will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This joins other numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to meet it’s 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% compared to 2012.
Disney will be celebrating the milestone in the coming months!. The project has come so far since the previous update last Fall when the first of more than half a million panels were installed! However, it is not the first of it’s kind! Back in 2016. Disney opened a 22-acre, 5-megawatt solar facility.
