Celebrating National Pizza Day at Walt Disney World
Today is National Pizza Day! Last year, I signed up for a series of races that required me to train for 8 straight months. I’ll be honest, it was tough to get started. When you’re logging THAT many miles per week, it’s easy to get overly fatigued and injured when pizza nights are the regular choice for post-run fuel.
In retrospect, I’ll never do it again, but this pizza loving aficionado actually quit the stuff altogether. That’s right, I gave up pizza for 8 MONTHS! I’m fully recovered from that ridiculously unsustainable diet choice now, and thank goodness, because it’s just in time for me to reap all the benefits that come along with National Pizza Day!
Wolfgang Puck Express
The first time I try any new pizza joint, I always order at least a slice of classic margarita. If you’re a brick oven pizzeria and can’t make the most basic pie taste good, you’re not a real pizza joint! Wolfgang Puck Express serves what is, in my opinion, the best margarita pizza outside of Via Napoli!
The chewy, perfectly baked crust soaks up just enough of the fresh tomato sauce to give the center portion that wet, drippy quality that every good margarita pizza has while maintaining a sturdy, easy-to-hold slice whose ingredients create explosion after explosion of flavor with every bite!
Boardwalk Pizza Window
I know I just preached about top-quality pizza, but this option is dedicated to those who want a grab-and-go pizza experience…Disney style! It’s not the best pizza on Property, but it’s perfect for any family or friend group looking to enjoy a casual meal before heading into Epcot. Right smack dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Disney’s Boardwalk, you’ll find a pizza window that specializes in quickly satisfying the Boardwalk guests’ appetites.
Order a pie from the window and find an adjacent table to enjoy your meal (there are always plenty). Before you crack open that box filled with a piping hot pizza pie, be sure to take in the passing boats as they sail past on the tranquilly peaceful Crescent Lake.
Pizza Ponte
Fans of Sicilian-style, thick crust cuts, rejoice! The newly opened Pizza Ponte in Disney Springs is serving up enormous, extra-cheesy and gooey slices perfect for National Cheese Pizza Day! I visited the first day the restaurant opened. I can say two things about the slice I got: It was blazing hot and it was blazing delicious.
These slices are big (hey, not a bad thing!) and one will definitely fill up even the hungriest in your party at lunchtime. They’re also a great grab and go snack to enjoy while walking and shopping around Disney Springs!
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar
Adventurous travelers are welcomed into this watering hole to refuel after a long day of artifact hunting, but their specialty cocktails aren’t the only thing that keep Jock’s business steady. He and his kitchen staff are cooking up some small plate-style eats whose flavors are big and bold enough to satisfy the appetites of long-traveled archeologists.
Sometimes a happy accident turns out the best results. My accidental trial of Jock’s deep-dish pepperoni pizza is a perfect example! The crispy bottom gives way to an airy and light center. It’s the flavor-packed cheese blend and pepperoni that make this my favorite pepperoni slice on property!
Via Napoli
Saving the best for last, Via Napoli always tops my list for best pizza on Walt Disney World Property…and National Pizza Day is the most timely day to try it for yourself! On the day of my most recent visit, our waitress pointed out that buffalo mozzarella had been imported directly from Italy that morning. They were serving special pies that, according to her, is the traditional prep in Italy. After her major talk-up, we couldn’t resist ordering half of our enormous pie with this special buffalo mozzarella…and I am so glad we did.
The cheese half of our table-sized pie was, as the pizza always is, absolutely out of this world. I’m from a neighborhood that has very good pizza. It pales in comparison to the thin dough, wood-charred crust, pungently flavorful cheese-topped pies at Via Napoli. In fact, I couldn’t pick a side…literally!
The buffalo mozzarella half may have been more traditionally prepared, but I’d eat any pizza they make there. That’s how tasty it is! If you’ve tried any of these pizza spots, I want to know which is your favorite! Leave a comment below and let’s start a conversation!
