Will the Name of Disney’s Cruise Line’s Newest Ship be Inspired by “The Little Mermaid”?
Back in 2016, when Disney Cruise Line announced the addition of two new ships to their fleet, cruise-lovers everywhere rejoiced! Then, in 2017 at the D23 Expo, it was announced that not two but three ships would be joining the fleet. Ever since then, we have patiently been awaiting the names of the new vessels.
Today, we think we might know the name of at least of those ships. Per Port Canaveral’s January Capital Project’s Update, the Waterside Engineering Design and Permitting Services project for Cruise Terminals 8 & 10 “has selected a contractor firm with knowledge on deep water cruise terminals to design the improvements on CT-8 & CT10.” As you can see in the image from the report, the modified terminal will be used for the “Disney Triton.” Yes, it appears, that Disney Cruise Line’s fifth will be named after Ariel’s father in “The Little Mermaid” – King Triton!
All of the new Disney Cruise Line ships are said to “sister-ships” and will have different names of course, but be a part of the “Triton-Class” of ships – If Triton is indeed the name of the newest ship Port Canaveral is getting ready for.
The Triton name has not been confirmed by Disney Cruise Line yet. However, we should receive confirmation on it within the next few months. Reports are indicating that construction on at least one of the new ships will begin at any time. In the past, Disney also announced the name of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy during the Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The next shareholder meeting is on the calendar for March 7, 2019.
