Kilimanjaro Safaris Closes After Giraffe Gives Birth
Disney welcomed the newest member of the Animal Kingdom family this afternoon! A baby Masai giraffe was born this afternoon around 2 pm on the Kilimanjaro Safari Savanna. Visitors were on the attraction during the start of the mother Mara’s labor and were able to get a look at mom and baby before the attraction was closed to the public to offer the baby a peaceful welcome to Walt Disney World.

This is the second time Disney’s Animal Kingdom has welcomed a baby giraffe to the park over the past year. As we reported back in October, a female Masai giraffe calf was born. Disney asked for help naming the new arrival and announced in December that the name chosen was Amira. This means “Princess” in Swahili.
