19 Disney Things We Are Looking Forward To in 2019!
As we look back on 2018, it was a pretty remarkable year to be a Disney fan! Here are MickeyBlog, some of our favorite highlights of the year include the release of Black Panther, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Mary Poppins Returns. And who can forget the wonder and excitement around the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? With just a few short days to go before it is officially 2019, we thought we’d look forward with 19 marvelous Disney things coming our way in the year ahead!
1. Frozen on Broadway Hits the Road
Couldn’t make it to the Big Apple to see Anna, Elsa and Olaf’s Broadway debut? Don’t worry, starting this Fall, Frozen on Broadway will be embarking on its first national tour and is bound to be stopping at a city near year! Though we don’t expect tour dates or casting info to be released until closer to the tour, what we do know is that the Frozen on Broadway tour will officially kick off in Schenectady, New York before officially opening at The Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles.
2. Frozen 2
Speaking of Frozen, the moment fans of all ages have been waiting for is just around the corner! The sequel to the blockbuster 2013 film will hit theatres in on November 22, 2019 (just in time for Thanksgiving.) The film will see the return of Anna (Kristen Bell, Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), loveable snowman (Josh Gad), and Kristoff (Johnathan Groff) to the icy land of Arendelle. Though Disney is keeping most of the exciting details under wraps we do know that Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown have also been added to the all-star cast!
3. D23 Expo
The ultimate Disney fan event will be returning to Anaheim Convention Center from August 23 – August 25, 2019. Highlights will include the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony, a Walt Disney Archives Exhibit featuring Pirates of the Caribbean, a chance to rub shoulders with some of your favorite Disney stars, the Mousequerade, a design challenge inspired by the Haunted Mansion and so much more! 4. Season 3 of DuckTales
Multiple generations of DuckTales fans can delight in the news that Season 3 of this iconic show will premiere in 2019. To celebrate the exciting news that voiceover actors for Huey, Dewey and Louie got together to give us a special treat! Check it out here:

5. Star Wars and Marvel Days at Sea – Disney Cruise Line
Guests can chart a course for adventure with more Star Wars and Marvel Day at Sea itineraries available on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic in 2019. These special days at sea will be available on select sailings from January to March 2019 and will feature action-packed deck parties, character meet and greets, themed onboard activities and so much more.

6. Star Wars: Episode IX
The latest installment of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars saga is expected to premiere on December 20, 2019. Though details for the pilot are being closely guarded, what we do know is that J.J Abrams will be reclaiming his spot as direct and many cast members will be returning including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Mark Hamill, and Anthony Daniels. New additions to the cast will be Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Keri Russel. In addition, Billy Dee Williams will be back to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian and the role of Leia Organa will also once again be played by Carrie Fisher using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
7. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Definitely, the most anticipated Disney event of 2019, Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will debut their new Star Wars-themed lands in 2019. This new area of the park will feature two headlining attractions. The first puts visitors behind the wheel of the Millennium Falcon in Smugglers Run while Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order. The new areas will also include eateries, a Morrocan-style open-market and so much more!

8. Disney +
Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service bringing Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic films right to your TVs, tablets and smartphones will be launching in 2019. Though Disney is still keeping many of the details tightly under wraps, those interested can sign up here to stay up-to-date on all the latest Disney + news and release dates!
9. Captain Marvel
Disney kicks off 2019 with the latest superhero to be given a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Captain Marvel played by Brie Larson swoops into theatres on March 8th. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s and follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the Universe as she finds herself thrust into a galactic battle between two alien races that could have dreadful consequences for Earth.
10. Skyliner – Walt Disney World
Slated to open in Late 2019, the Skyliner system will completely change the way that guests staying at select Value and Moderate Resorts visit the parks. The system will conveniently connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios with Epcot and four resort hotels: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and upcoming new DVC property, Disney’s Riviera Resort. Guests using this service are guaranteed a bird’s eye view of the resorts and theme parks!
11. Dumbo
In this live-action remake of the original 1941 animated classic, struggling circus owner Max Medici (played by Danni DeVito) tasks Holt Farrier (Colin Farell) with caring for a baby elephant Dumbo whose oversized ears give him the ability to fly. When a greedy entrepreneur played by Michael Keaten recruits Dumbo to appear in his new Dreamland endeavour, Farrier and his family quickly learn about his malicious intentions. Dumbo is slated to open in theaters on March 29th.
12. Kim Possible
The new live-action Kim Possible will officially premiere on Disney Channel and DisneyNOW on February 15, 2019 at 8:oo pm. Kim Possible stars Sadie Stanely as Kim and Sean Giambrone as Ron Stoppable. The film will also feature a cameo by the voice of the original Kim Possible, Christy Carlson Romano. Those watching on February 15th will also want to stay tuned after the movie’s premiere for a look at Disneys eight-part miniseries Fast Layne.
13. Star Wars Celebration
This celebration of all things Star Wars will take place at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL from April 11 – 15, 2019. The Star Wars Celebration promises to be a fan experience like no other and will be brimming with entertainment, celebrity experiences, stage shows, panels, interactive events, exclusive merchandise, screenings and more! 14. Aladdin
Aladdin marks the second of Disney’s live-action remakes slated to hit the theatres in 2019. The film which is slated to open on May 24th will be directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) and will star Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Mena Moussoud in the title role. Will Smith has been cast in the role of the genie with Marwan Kenzari recruited to play the villainous Jafar.
15. Descendants 3
Fans of Disney’s Descendants films will be pleased to know that Mal, Evie and friends will be back at some point during the Summer of 2019. Though little has been revealed about the project Disney recently released a trailer. Check it out:

16. Avengers: Endgame
Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, this sequel to Avenger’s Infinity War will see Earth’s mightiest heroes attempt to rise from defeat to defend the Galaxy from Thanos who is now in possession of the Infinity Stones that wiped out 50% of all life in the universe. The hotly anticipated Marvel film is slated to hit theaters on April 26th.
17. Toy Story 4
Summer movie-goers won’t want to miss the latest instalment in the Toy Story franchise opening on June 21st. After Bonnie adds a new toy Forky (voiced by Arrested Development’s Tony Hale) into the mix, Buzz, Woody and friends embark on a road trip with friends both old and new and learn just how big the world can be if you’re a toy. Toy Story 4 will be directed by Josh Cooley and will feature a returning cast that includes Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Blake Clark (Slinky Dog), Estelle Harris (Mrs. Potato Head, Kristen Schaal (Trixie), Bonnie Hunt (Dolly), Timothy Dalton (Mr Pricklepants) and Jeff Garlin (Buttercup.) New to the series are Patricia Arquette and Keanu Reeves as well as comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele in the role of carnival toys Bunny and Ducky.
18. The Lion King
When it comes to Summer blockbusters, this CG-Animated remake of the classic animated film opening on July 19, 2019 is sure to be a front-runner. Directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book), The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where Simba, a future king is born. But as everyone in the animal kingdom celebrates Simba’s arrival, Scar (Simba’s uncle) has plans to take over leadership of the pride. The battle for a kingdom is filled with betrayal, tragedy and drama and results in Simba’s exile. With help from some newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to take back his rightful position on the throne. The film boasts an all-star cast including Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Alfre Woodard, John Kani, Florence Kasumba, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Oliver.
19. Artemis Fowl
Disney’s much-anticipated adaptation of the popular book by Eoin Colfer is set to hit theaters on August 9th. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, it follows 12-year old genius Artemis Fowl who comes from a long line of criminal masterminds. Artemis faces off against a powerful hidden race of fairies who may have something to do with his father’s disappearance. The film stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, with Josh Gad, and Judi Dench.
